generous paid time off, and more. Position Summary Biomason is
seeking a Research Scientist/Senior Engineer specializing in
Concrete, to help lead the development, testing, and optimization
of bioconcrete products incorporating biocement. This role is
highly applied, bridging laboratory research with real-world
product development. The ideal candidate will have expertise in
aggregate characterization, concrete mix design, statistical
experimental design and modeling, and mechanical/durability testing
of concrete products. This position reports to the Vice President
of R&D and may require occasional international travel to
support partnerships, pilot projects, and scale-up initiatives. Key
Responsibilities Develop and optimize bioconcrete formulations
incorporating biocement for strength, durability, and performance
Apply statistical methods (DOE, regression modeling, multivariate
analysis) to design experiments and build predictive models
Characterize concrete materials using industry-standard testing
(ASTM, ACI, EN, and other international standards) Translate
lab-scale findings into pilot- and production-scale applications
Collaborate with cross-functional R&D, engineering, and
manufacturing teams, as well as external partners Prepare clear
technical documentation and communicate findings to both technical
and non-technical stakeholders Remain current with advances in
cement chemistry, biomineralization, and sustainable construction
materials Qualifications M.S. or Ph.D. in Civil Engineering,
Concrete Science, Materials Science, or a related field Minimum of
3 years of direct experience in biocement, bioconcrete, or
cementitious material research, product development, or testing
Hands-on experience with pre-cast concrete manufacturing (wet
and/or dry) preferred; RMX concrete production experience a plus
Strong background in statistical experimental design (DOE) and
computational/data modeling Experience in scaling laboratory
methods to pilot or production environments Competencies Strong
analytical thinker with creative problem-solving skills Organized
and detail-oriented; able to manage multiple priorities in a
fast-paced environment Excellent oral and written communication
skills Collaborative team player with the ability to work
independently Commitment to laboratory and site safety protocols
Physical Demands Ability to stand, walk, and work in laboratory and
pilot plant environments for extended periods Ability to lift up to
25 pounds occasionally Manual dexterity for handling laboratory
equipment and test specimens Work Conditions Work performed
primarily in laboratory, pilot plant, and potentially manufacturing
environments Occasional exposure to wet or dusty conditions, heavy
equipment, and industrial noise Often exposed to odors Routinely
works in office environments Works around heavy objects or
machinery Frequently works on slippery or uneven surfaces
Periodically exposed to outdoor weather, noise, heat/cold, dust,
and industrial environments Periodic international and domestic
