challenge, the R&D team is currently seeking a Process Studies
Group Post Doc in Greensboro, NC. As a Process Studies Group Post
Doc you will identify and develop new technologies to improve the
biological, manufacturing and physical performance of future
products and to enhance our technology base in formulation
development methods.
Accountabilities
- Independently conduct laboratory studies to evaluate and
optimize formulation / colloid science technologies
- Access external expertise and science where needed
- Recognize areas of potential proprietary advantage and capture
opportunities accordingly
- Proactively advise development personnel and arrange laboratory
support work to assist in the solution of manufacturing process
problems and opportunities so that results can be implemented
- Plan and control / carry out laboratory work to meet project
targets and timelines as agreed with +1 manager in order to
increase understanding of physical science underpinning Syngenta
processes
- Provide expertise in particle and colloid science to
Development, Supply Chain and Project Teams to permit formulation
and execution of development plans to meet Business targets under
the guidance of +1 Manager
- Process & interpret results as directed by +1 Manager in order
to progress work plans. Produce detailed technical reports and
provide technical summaries / presentations to project teams
- Develop and design new analytical testing methods to ensure
customer satisfaction with Syngenta products under all condition in
the marketplace.
- Organize, schedule and execute projects in accordance with
departmental priorities as well as assist in training and
supervision of technicians, co-op students and contract
employees
- Carry out literature searches and searches of computerized
databases in order to identify new capability / technology to
improve Syngenta processes Critical success factors & key
challenges
- Transferring expertise to other scientists requires good
inter-personal skills, plus the ability to adapt to and exploit
existing informal networks
- Concise, clear and timely written communications to support
technology transfer
- Networking with the local formulation technical community to
recognize difficulties and opportunities
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Actively apply scientific expertise to influence projects and
innovation in a fast moving environment.
- Deliver projects with high quality information to meet the
demands of business specific and strategic projects
Qualifications
Knowledge, experience & capabilities
Critical knowledge
- Minimum Ph.D. in the field of crystallization or colloid
science
- Familiarity with experimental design and statistical analysis
Critical experience
- Sufficient laboratory experience to be able to efficiently
design test methods and evaluate equipment/instruments
- Experience with formulating and testing hypotheses
- Strong background in physical science
- Practical experience in active ingredient manufacture Critical
technical, professional and personal capabilities
- Comprehensive laboratory / analytical experience and
knowledge
- Ability to apply physico-chemical concepts to process
development including use of specialized data analysis tools.
- Ability to analyze complex and diverse problem situations
creatively leading to the generation and implementation of original
solutions
- Good time management and work planning skills
- Ability to convey the right level of detail to the right
audience verbally, in writing, or by presentations and ability to
judge when and who to communicate key information.
- Able to maintain and extend networks internally and with other
parts of the organization and contribute constructively to teams in
order to meet targets.
- Engineering sense to think quantitatively about laboratory
phenomena
- Objectivity to approach potentially contentious issues
logically and decide issues factually
- Empathy to understand others' perspectives
