Job Title: Machine Operator (Moulder Operator) Location: Stokesdale Shift: 2nd Shift Monday - Thursday (3:30 PM - 2:00 AM) Primary Purpose: The primary purpose of the Moulder Operator is to learn all aspects of the Moulders, including: safety, of oneself and crew to OSHA and Endura standards; quality per spec and production, and effectively execute to customer specifications. Safety Considerations: * Wear proper eye and ear protection at all times. * Always follow proper lockout/tagout procedures. * Make sure all employees in your area are following established safety procedures. * Make sure no doors, aisles, electrical panels, or fire extinguishers are being blocked with materials. * Keep machine in safe operating conditions. Guards need to be in place, hoods, down, etc... * The handling of tooling (cutter heads) is extremely dangerous and some are heavy to handle. Cut resistant gloves must be worn when handling tooling. The transport of tooling on carts must be kept to a minimum of two 9 heads or four 4 heads or one 9 plus two 4. * Train the crew to work in a safe manner. Ear plugs and safety glasses need to be worn. Hair up (if necessary); no loose clothing. Proper lifting techniques practiced, etc... Job Requirements: * Must be able to work well under pressure. * Be capable of figuring yield studies of product being run to assure that we are not wasting wood. * Know the different stock used to produce all the different patterns that youre moulding. * Know how to read specs to assure that you are running patterns correctly. * Know how to use calipers and tape measure. Job Duties: * Train crew to know the importance of quality, make sure they have a good understanding of the product that is being run so that they have all the information to make correct decision when grading. * Keep area clean and organized. * Demonstrate ability to recognize tooling for each profile and assist with tool installation and removal. * Demonstrate ability to start up and shut down equipment. * Demonstrate ability to perform all quality checks and complete associated documents. * Perform weekly calibration checks of any assigned measuring devices. * Must achieve LOTO certification. * Must be able to cut in stones for all our profiles, such as standard door jambs, Brick moulding, Center Mulls, Jamb extenders, etc. * Have the self motivation to keep machine running to get best efficiency possible, a sense of URGENCY at all times to keep machine center running safely and efficiently or getting it back into production. * Must be well organized, operator will be expected to prepare for change overs by having all tools and equipment ready before set up starts (heads, stones, hold downs, etc) this will help with quick and efficient change. * Must take responsibility and participate in Preventive Maintenance program. All of the moulders at Endura have a required PM schedule that the operator will assist with. Which ever shift the PM is scheduled that operator must attend. This schedule may require overtime and Saturday work. * Must make the commitment to the job 100%, good attendance, overtime if necessary, always having a good attitude toward company policies and rules as well as enforcing them. * It is mandatory to report to your work center (machine) 15 minutes before crew starts there scheduled time of work. This gives you time to prepare the work center for prompt start up. * Operator must do all possible to make sure machine is set up and running at end of shift before finishing each day. First shift is required at a minimum to stay until next operator relieves his duties. Second shift operator is expected to stay and finish set up, include setting all stones so machine is run condition. Additional Job Duties: * Train crew to know the importance of working safe and how to do each job assigned in the safest and most efficient way possible. * Accept responsibility for all products being run * Product must be to spec and quality needs to be up to Enduras standards. * Complete knowledge of product and item number layout system. * Insure completion and submission of Quality Control documents (specification check sheets). * Cutter heads must be maintained and changed out to scheduled run times and lineal requirements. Schedules are as follows: Non jointed heads will be changed every 40 hrs of runtime. Jointed or finish heads will be changed out every 30,000 lineal and / or as needed. * Demonstrate ability with QAD work order infeeds and outfeeds. * Demonstrate ability with Excel type production reports. * Motivate crew to reach production goals required for machine center. * Set a good example as a leader for Endura Products. * Work necessary overtime as needed. * Follow directions from supervisor. * Always have a good attitude, be positive. * Good attendance is extremely important in an operator role. Set a good example for your crew to follow. * Keep crew productive when machine is down for changeovers. * Understand the mechanics of the moulders. The operator must be able to set up and operate all four moulders that are located at the Stokesdale plant, which vary from a four head moulder to a seven head moulder with a universal saw * Train crew and follow up to assure that all production reporting is done correctly; also all units in machine center are to be tagged clearly for identification. * Have good leadership skills; work well with others, in training and giving direction. Will be required to be able to rotate between all four moulders. Moulder # 5 will require the assisting of supervision of 10 to 15 employees with the cooperation of the putty lead as our Putty repair station runs in line with this moulder. The other 3 moulders have a crew of 2 to 3 (which includes the operator) depending on the pattern to be moulded. They will be responsible for pushing out, tying up, QC and tallying the bundles. A MOULDER OPERATOR WILL BE RESPONSIBLE TO OBTAIN THESE RESPONSIBILITIES TO HOLD THE POSITION OF A MOULDER LEAD OPERATOR. Job Analysis: JOB KNOWLEDGE: 6 months of training as a Level 3 Operator is required. Must have knowledge of the grades of lumber and the product your material goes into. JOB SPECIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Educational requirements due to accountability of production require completion of 9th grade, and must have the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Approximately 1 year of work experience is required to become skilled in all phases of the job. Must be capable of reading a tape measure, calipers and pass written exam and driving test for forklift license. INITIATIVE & INGENUITY: Work priorities are determined by supervisors instructions and incoming orders/materials. One must develop the knowledge to work independently while keeping in mind the affect their position has on everyday operations. The operator must quality check the stock prior to glue-up. This individual must be self-motivated working with limited supervision while following verbal, written instructions and be ambitious enough to check inventory and know what combinations will yield a usable blank. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Under specific direction of the Supervisors and Plant Manager where goals and objectives are established. Coordinate work with material handlers and any other people your work may affect. Report any material handler deficiencies or machine problem immediately. Notify leads/supervisor of unusual circumstances as needed. RESPONSIBILITY FOR MATERIAL/PRODUCT: Carelessness in grading, gluing and quality checking of materials could result in loss of production time or shipping, which could be expensive. Errors involving inventory, down time or missed shipments will become apparent in daily processing. CONTACT WITH OTHER: Regular contact with other employees, lead people and staff members where improper handling may affect results. Clear, concise communications skills are important. An operator is expected to set a good example for crew members regarding, safety, quality, production, attendance and conduct. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Flow of work and character of duties involve performing some repetitive hand, wrist, and arm motions. Normal and corrected hearing and vision are necessary with manual coordination some walking, bending, twisting and stooping and climbing stairs and lifting of approximately 30 lbs. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. RESPONSIBILITY FOR EQUIPMENT: This position must ensure that all preventative maintenance is completed on a timely basis. Damage to this equipment would result in a loss for the company. Good housekeeping is a necessity. WORKING CONDITIONS/HAZARDS: Exposed to normal factory environment (wood dust) with no factors or hazards present to a disagreeable extent. Employee must be able to withstand heat up in excess of 95 degrees. Carelessness could result in falls, back strain, cuts, crushed hand or foot. Caution is required while operating forklift. OTHER SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES: Must adhere to all safety rules and regulations as specified in the Enduras Safety Manual. This responsibility necessitates wearing of proper personal protective equipment (i.e. safety glasses & ear plugs). The operator is solely responsible for the crew regarding safety training and proper lifting techniques OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This job includes other duties and responsibilities assigned by management. Regular attendance is an essential job function.
