This position reviews clinic and community claims for accuracy and submits electronic bills to private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare. Researches reason for denials and rejections before re-submission.

Employees are able to prioritize the numerous duties they are responsible for, but have the ability to change tasks on demand when given a job of a higher priority. Employees rely heavily on reasoning, reconciling and memory skills. The job is fast paced, high volume and deadline driven.

An employee in this class provides independent records maintenance and processing of transactions in such areas as accounts payable or receivables, maintenance and control of general ledgers and subsidiary accounts, and preparation of reports for one or more accounts. Employees verify, code, balance, maintain and report on the records relating to the County's or a department's fiscal and business operations. Work performed requires the use of calculators, personal computers, CRT terminals, and typewriters. Duties involve maintaining single entry books or journals. Work requires the exercise of considerable judgment to ensure that transactions are in accordance with correct accounting and budget procedures and statutory requirements. Employees receive minimal supervision and work is reviewed periodically for results and conformance to policy. Work in this class is distinguished from the Accounting Technician I level by the greater complexity of work and more independence of action.

Examples of Duties


  • Submitting E-bills daily for billing of private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare claims for clinic and community through CureMD
  • Researching rejections and denials of claims and, if necessary, calling the payers for further details of Explanation of Benefits or Remittance Advice
  • Transferring applicable unpaid balances to Collections and Debt Set Off
  • Monitoring global maternity patients with the use of an Excel spreadsheet
  • Posting daily revenue cash receipts
  • Entering claims on the portal of NC Tracks when necessary
  • Initiating paper claims to providers that request a HCFA
  • Reviewing and posting payments from private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare
  • Reconciling the Medicaid remittance advice to CureMD
  • Cashiering duties ( entering payments in Tyler Cashiering system); also covers fee office
  • Fulfilling duties for mail, phone, fee office coverage and deposit pick up as scheduled monthly
  • Completing special projects as assigned
There will be an assessment given at the interview.
High school or equivalency supplemented by basic courses in bookkeeping or accounting and three years experience in private insurance and Medicaid billing.
  • Four year degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in private insurance and Medicaid billing, OR
  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university and two years experience in private insurance and Medicaid billing, OR
  • High school completion and three years experience in private insurance and Medicaid billing.

Prefer strong knowledge in private insurance and Medicaid. Experience working with CureMD and Munis. Public Health or related setting accounting experience a plus. Proficient use of Microsoft Excel and working with/creating spreadsheets, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook
Documentation of immunity to: measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox, per CDC recommendations. Screening/proof of Hepatitis B immunity, as recommended by the CDC. Supplemental Information
