our work and our teams.Job Summary:The Technology Director,
Specialty Solutions leads a global team to develop new products and
technology platforms to address business opportunities within our
strategic market focus areas (personal care, medical,
pharmaceutical/nutraceutical, performance coatings and
infrastructure). This role works in close partnership with
Marketing, Sales and Operations to deliver EBITDA growth via new
product commercialization.We are looking for a professional with
experience building a high-performance culture with a passion for
technology development and solving customer problems.In addition,
this leader is responsible to assess market-driven product needs
and develop innovation roadmaps including internal and external
options to address any associated technology gaps.This position
reports directly to the Vice President of Innovation and is a
member of the R&D and Specialty Solutions leadership teams.
Responsibilities:
- Organizational Leadership
- Coaches team members to achieve their full potential and
recruit new talent to support growth plans
- Builds a high-performance culture with a focus on exceeding
growth objectives
- Exhibits strong scientific fundamentals and brings clarity to
complex problems
- Balances resources to prioritize the growth portfolio while
still providing necessary near-term issue support
- Instills a safety culture across the laboratories and ensures
teams are working safely and following Chemical Hygiene Plans
- Product and Technology Platform Development
- Develops and prioritizes a portfolio of growth projects using
Lean Start-up and Stage Gate approaches.
- Develops innovation roadmaps to develop new technology
platforms to address market-driven needs.
- Engages external innovators to inflow new technologies in
support of the innovation roadmaps.
- Ensures internal lab capability is able to meet product and
technology development needs
- Drives development of new Intellectual property to support
project goalsCustomer Focus
- Partners with Marketing and Sales to clarify customer problems
and develop new offerings and value propositions.
- Translates customer needs to internal performance targets
including the development of application mimics as needed.
- Supports the development of customer-centric technical
documents to enable product commercialization. Compliance:
- Complies with company Health, Safety, and Environmental
policies, procedures and arrangements
- Reports all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents,
incidents and near misses promptly
- Acts in a safe and responsible manner at all times Problem
Solving & Innovation:
- Active participation in continuous improvement activities
- Drives problem-solving culture
- Takes responsibility and ownership for own learning and
development in the spirit of continuous improvement of both self
and the business
- Assists in the training, mentoring, and assessment of other
team members
- Exercises autonomy and judgment subject to overall direction or
guidanceEducation:
- Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science or
related discipline Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in technology leadership
and/or product development within the chemical industry
- Demonstrated expertise in identifying customer needs and
translating those pain points to viable technology solutions
- Experience developing new products across some mix of our
strategic market focus areas (personal care, medical,
pharmaceutical/nutraceutical, performance coatings, and
infrastructure)
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing direct
reports
- Experience with external outreach to inflow new intellectual
property and technology
- Experience with lean start-up and staged gate processes
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the
ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs and
priorities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the
ability to flex own style as needed to influence and drive
results
- Ability to work within a multi-functional, global
organizational structure and exhibits robust interpersonal
skills
- Self-motivated and able to work within a fast-paced
environment
- Critical thinking skills and analytical abilities which allow
assessments of situations and opportunities
- Demonstrated knowledge of Process Hazard Analysis
leadership
- Excellent proficiency within Microsoft products (Outlook,
Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
