be considered. An exciting opportunity is available for a
registered nurse with stepdown or ICU experience to join a new
progressive care unit in a contract role based in Lexington, NC.
This unit is set to open in early February 2026 as a high acuity
PCU and transition to a full ICU by the end of the year, providing
a dynamic and evolving work environment focused on cardiac and
vascular care. Location Overview Lexington, NC, is a vibrant
community known for its rich history, friendly neighborhoods, and
convenient access to medical centers and cultural attractions. The

Responsibilities - Provide comprehensive nursing care to high
acuity cardiac and vascular patients, including those with CHF,
cardiomyopathy, post-cardiac surgery, heart transplants, and
advanced cardiac support devices. - Administer and manage advanced
therapies such as pressors, sedation drips, chest tubes,
tracheostomies, and mechanical ventilation as the unit transitions
to ICU level care. - Perform wound care and dressing changes,
defibrillation, EKG interpretation, cardioversions, and sheath
management. - Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including
intensivists, hospitalists, respiratory therapists, and
phlebotomists. - Participate in patient monitoring through EPIC EMR
and remote telemetry technology. - Float occasionally to other
medical units as required within scope of practice. Qualifications
/ Desired Experience - Minimum 2 years of ICU or PCU experience;
CVICU experience preferred. (Starting late 2026, ICU-specific
experience will be required.) - Certification in BLS, ACLS, and
NIHSS. - Proficiency in caring for patients with advanced cardiac
devices (Swanz, Impella, LVAD experience highly preferred). -
Strong skills in wound care, post-operative care, and cardiology
nursing interventions. - Ability to care for complex cardiac
transplant patients and manage high acuity patient ratios
(initially 1:34, transitioning to 1:23). - First-time travelers are
welcomed. Schedule & Work Environment - Shifts: 0630-1900 or
1830-0700 - Weekend rotation approximately every other weekend - No
on-call responsibilities - Self-scheduling with staff given
priority - 50% holiday coverage required - Contract assignment
