Care/Raleigh Cancer Center is seeking a Palliative Oncology
Physician. Summary: Will provide clinical leadership and expertise
within the Palliative Care team to improve care throughout the
hospital for patients with advanced illness and those approaching
end-of-life and their families. Responsibilities: 1. Provide
medical consultation for patients and families with advanced
illness to include pain and symptom management, assistance with
medical decision making, advance care planning, and the
establishment of goals of care. 2. Assist in the establishment of
realistic treatment goals, resuscitation status, and the benefits
and burdens of proposed treatments for seriously ill and dying
patients. 3. Provide supervision of the Palliative Care Nurse
Practitioner according to NC State Rule and Regulations and Rex
Healthcare policy. 4. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds to
review and prioritize the needs of patients on Palliative Care
Services. 5. Conduct and participate in family meetings to discuss
medical decision-making and resolve conflict. 6. Assist in the
identification of educational needs of physicians, clinical staff,
and support staff regarding palliative care issues. 7. Assist in
the development of policies and evidence-based protocols to promote
quality end-of-life care. 8. Maintain membership on the Ethics
Committee to provide expertise in difficult decision making and
conflict resolution. 9. Provide leadership to the Physician
Advisory Group and referring physicians to ensure that Palliative
Care Services is well integrated with existing services and
supports educational and quality initiatives. 10. Provides
appropriate documentation of direct patient care which will support
successful billing for professional services. 11. Participates in
budget planning to ensure the sustainability of Palliative Care

information: Education Requirements: Graduation from an accredited
school of medicine. Licensure/Certification Requirements: Board
Certified in Internal Medicine DEA;MD Professional Experience
Requirements: Prefer prior experience in hospice and palliative
medicine. Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements: Language
Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety
rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure
manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively to patients, visitors, and employees
of the organization. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract,
multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,
common fractions, and decimals. Ability to interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to
carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
