Job Description:
The Humane Society of the Piedmont is seeking a full-time or
part-time wellness veterinarian. Candidate should be comfortable
performing pre-operative and wellness exams and basic sick care,
e.g. simple ear infections and dental cleanings. Essential Job
Functions Provide quality preventative medicine to the community
Educate clients about the value of preventative care such as
heartworm and flea prevention, while providing excellent customer
service and care to clients Vaccinate pets against rabies and other
disease, implant microchips and perform other veterinary medical
procedures Work and communicate with other veterinarians and
technicians to provide the best medical care Examine animals
preoperatively to determine their ability to undergo anesthesia and
surgery Supervise post-operative rechecks and order of medical
treatments as necessary to ensure complete surgical recovery Access
individual patient issues, and provide appropriate solutions
Creatively problem solve on a daily basis Make reasonable and
sensible medical decisions Follow and support all organizational
and medical protocols Communicate effectively with the Medical
Director to keep management apprised of all out of the ordinary
situations Communicate any issues concerning staff, patients,
training programs to the Medical Director, Executive Director, or
Clinic Manager Provide input and communicate any issues regarding
the clinic's disease control protocols, surgical protocols, or
other medical issues with the Medical Director or Clinic Manager as
appropriate Behave in a manner that upholds both personal and
professional standards, as an ambassador of PPSNC/HSP, at all
times, while observing our team values Be a leader among staff,
displaying a positive attitude and acting as a motivating force for
all staff members All other duties as assigned Wellness Techniques
& Skills Prescribe necessary medications Administer vaccines to
prevent common diseases Communicate with animal owners to answer
questions and educate them on preventive care Educate the public
about zoonotic disease Collaborate with veterinary assistants and
other staff to provide top-notch care to clients and patients
Advise animal owners regarding sanitary measures, feeding, general
care, medical conditions, or treatment options Education,
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Must be a licensed
Veterinarian in the state of North Carolina Must maintain all
current and correct licensure Physical Requirements Must be able to
work standing or sitting for 8 or more hours Must be able to lift
and carry up to 40 pounds repeatedly throughout the day with help
Must be able to bend and kneel repeatedly and have a good range of
motion, including a reasonable degree of agility to move through
tightly cramped areas in various situations Must be able to see
fine detail in a variety of situations Must have acceptable sense
of touch, smell, hearing and vision Must be able to work in
potentially extreme environmental temperatures Must be able to work
and reach on hands and knees Must possess excellent hand-eye
coordination and balance Must possess an acceptable degree of
dexterity in hands and fingers Emotional/Mental Requirements Must
be able to work efficiently and effectively under stressful
conditions Must be able to respond quickly to a variety of medical
situations (with training) Must be able to cope with death either
due to surgical complications or euthanasia Ability to rapidly and
accurately process information Ability to delegate tasks and make
decisions Ability to recognize a need for assistance and ask for
help Ability to manage and handle frustrating situations and remain
calm Work Environment The offices and operations of a high volume
spay/neuter clinic can very busy at times. This position is
scheduled for 5 days/week, usually Tuesday through Friday with a
half day on Saturday (8am-12pm). Our clinic is a high volume, low
cost, spay and neuter clinic that also offers affordable
prophylactic wellness to our community. Our team is made up of
