Overview:
Talent Pool: Nursin Serves as a department leader, clinical expert
for the patient population served, and as an educator and resource
for staff. Assesses, plans, implements, documents, organizes,
prioritizes, delegates, supervises and coordinates the care of
neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric patients as
prescribed within the parameters of the NC Nurse Practice Act and
hospital complex. g Responsibilities:
Provides nursing care via the nursing process for data analysis,
development, implementation & evaluation of nursing care.
Interviews patient to obtain pertinent medical & surgical history,
current medications, treatment plan & preparation for examination.
Performs age specific assessments to collect pertinent data.
Consistently recognizes & acts upon subtle changes in patient
status, anticipating their needs while collaborating with the
health care team. Develops & documents plan of care from assessment
data including discharge planning in collaboration with patient,
significant others, & health care providers. Implements
interventions in a manner to maintain patient dignity, privacy,
confidentiality & safety. Defines measurable outcomes based on
database & ongoing evaluations of patient response to
interventions. Identifies variances to expected outcomes &
intervenes to optimize outcomes. Involves patient, significant
others, & health care providers in evaluation process (i.e. Patient
satisfaction surveys, follow-up calls & CQI). Assists patient &
significant others in identifying & securing appropriate services &
educational opportunities available to address health-related needs
while providing emotional & psychological support to patients &
family (i.e.: Referrals, Consults, Lab & Radiology Services,
Support Groups & teaching materials). Demonstrates advanced
competencies & critical thinking skills in daily practice.
Identifies & implements educational needs for patients/significant
others. Educates staff regarding the nursing process, & the use of
clinical pathways as collaborative practice & interdisciplinary
care tool. Intervenes & implements system changes to optimize
department & patient outcomes. Performs needs assessments (formally
& informally) to identify opportunities to improve staff education,
clinical competence, quality of care, or research opportunities &
leads or participates in initiatives to address those needs.

Supports an environment of evidence based practice/research/quality
improvement. Demonstrates knowledge of Shared Governance
accountabilities and principles, supports department shared
governance council, directly as a council member or indirectly by
keeping informed of council activities/supporting council
decisions, brings forth issues to council. Demonstrates knowledge
of how to access online resources containing policies, procedures,
standards, and additional resources. Participates in
QI/EBP/Research activities to support departmental goals and
initiatives. Demonstrates understanding of resource management and
implements opportunities. Collects QI/EBP/Research data and
participates in analysis and action plan development, incorporates
changes into practice. Participates in ongoing activities to meet
and adhere to regulatory standards (TJC, DFS, OSHA). Recognizes
opportunities for QI processes, participates in design and
implementation of QI processes. Demonstrates knowledge of evidence
based practice standards and collaborates with Clinical Nurse
Specialist to incorporate these changes into practice, coaching and
mentoring other staff to do the same.

Provides education to staff related to the patient/nurse

personnel in performance/patient care. Collaborates with other RN3s
and RN4s to identify, initiate, and evaluate teambuilding
strategies. Recognized as a resource/facilitator for precepting,
mentoring, delegating, team building. Independently performs charge
duties. Participates in the evaluation of department based
preceptor development plan.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION: BSN with a Master's degree in health related field or RN
to MSN degree from an approved program required EXPERIENCE: 2 years
as a Registered Nurse. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
REQUIRED
RN - Registered Nurse licensed in North Carolina or a Compact
state.
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
Certification is required in a clinical specialty as defined by
National Certification requirements. PREFERRED
ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support
