Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement was established in 2001 to develop citizen-leaders who serve UNC Greensboro and the larger Piedmont Triad community, and to advance the commitment of UNC Greensboro that every student will have the opportunity to engage in leadership development with public purpose. UNC Greensboro is a public, doctoral/research-intensive university of almost 20,000 students coming from North Carolina and 48 other states and 69 foreign countries/regions in 82 baccalaureate programs, 28 certificate/specialist/licensure programs, 74 master---s programs and 32 doctoral programs. UNC Greensboro is located in a city of 287,019 in the central part of the state, with a metropolitan area population of 1,089,155. Position Summary The Director of Leadership and Civic Engagement provides oversight and strategic direction to a team of talented professionals who focus on engaging students in leadership development, civic engagement, and meaningful service with the goal of preparing them to be change makers who are equipped to create positive social change in our communities. The director will help cultivate campus and community partnerships that advance the mission and initiatives of UNCG and provide students with experiences that create 21st Century Leaders with the knowledge and skills to be active contributors to UNCG and the greater Piedmont Triad Community. The Director will work with the team to plan, deliver and assess leadership and civic engagement programs on the campus. The Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement team is professionally engaged and has received numerous accolades for their innovative work. The university was also recently designated as a ---Voter Friendly Campus--- and is a NASPA LEAD initiative institution. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must possess a Master---s degree in higher education administration or other related area, and a minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in higher education with a focus on leadership, service, and/or civic engagement related work. Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and CertificatesPreferred Qualifications Candidates should also possess a working understanding of related legal and compliance issues; an ability to create and assess new initiatives; experience managing budgets; and knowledge of the theoretical foundations related to college student development, leadership development and campus environments. Candidates should possess strong leadership, supervision and interpersonal skills, with a proven record of achieving results in collaboration with others; building successful teams; and mentoring professionals and students. Candidates should also have experience working within diverse campus environments and possess an understanding of how to create culturally inclusive and engaging environments.
