Aquatic Ecology Assistant Professor The Department of Biology at the University of North Carolina atGreensboro, (UNCG) is committed to providing excellent andcomprehensive instruction at both the undergraduate and graduatelevels. We offer a full range of courses to students pursuing adegree in Biology or Medical Technology, as well as to non-biologymajors interested in the biological sciences. Biology majors havemany options available to them, including the option to pursuedegree concentrations in Biotechnology, Environmental Biology, orHuman Biology. Biology students are encouraged to gain researchexperience through independent study with a faculty member, and todevelop strong communication skills with writing- and speaking-intensive lecture and laboratory courses. Graduates of the Biologyprogram at UNCG find employment in a wide range of fields and arewell prepared for further study in graduate school or inhealth-related professions such as medicine, dentistry, andveterinary medicine. The Department's excellence in education is complemented byhighly active research programs in environmental and behavioralecology, evolution, population biology, and cell and developmentalbiology. Biology faculty members publish regularly in leadingscientific journals and have earned national and internationalprominence with their research activities. Moreover, faculty in theDepartment have been very successful in obtaining external fundingto support their research and have been awarded research grantsfrom various agencies including the EPA, NIH, NSF, and USDA The Department of Biology invites applications for atenure-track Aquatic Ecology Assistant Professorposition in Biology. We seek an outstanding individual withresearch interests in Aquatic Ecology. The successful applicantwill be expected to develop a productive, externally fundedresearch program and contribute to student instruction of thedepartment at all levels. Full participation is expected in ourBiology undergraduate curriculum and Master program, as well as ourbroadly defined doctoral program in Environmental Health Science,which is directed at understanding environmental problems thatdirectly, or indirectly, affect human health and well-being fromthe molecular to global levels. The successful applicant will alsobe expected to play a major role in teaching our core undergraduatecourse in Ecology, and specialized upper division courses relatedto aquatic ecology. Potential synergies with faculty in our andother departments are desirable. Postdoctoral experience is preferred, and candidates must hold,or anticipate, a Ph.D. in Biology, or a related discipline, whenstarting the position on August 1, 2019.
