Guilford College invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Computing Technology and Information Systems (CTIS) department beginning January 2023 with an initial contract through May 2024. Extension of the contract length is possible. Guilford's CTIS department supports majors in Computing Technology and Information Systems and Cyber and Network Security as well as providing courses for the Experience Design major. The CTIS department focuses on providing foundational knowledge across the computer science and cyber and network security curriculum with a specific emphasis on student projects in many courses that allow for the development of a substantial technical portfolio.

This position is a wonderful opportunity to explore teaching and professional development at a small college and in a supportive and innovative environment. The faculty teaching load at Guilford College is three courses per semester, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach in a variety of areas such as cybersecurity, operating systems, networking, software development and design, and others. Class sizes typically range from 10-25 students reflecting the diversity of the college, with each class typically including traditional-aged students, continuing students, and advanced high-school learners in the nationally recognized Early College at Guilford. Guilford College places its strongest emphasis on high quality teaching and opportunities will be available to mentor student research projects, supervise internships, team-teach courses, and participate in any number of cross-disciplinary collaborative activities. The college's novel Center for Principled Problem Solving and Excellence in Teaching supports many disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and community-based educational and faculty development initiatives.

A masters degree in a relevant discipline is required, a PhD or other terminal degree is preferred. Successful experience in college teaching and/or in a work-related field are also preferred. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to help diverse students develop skills that will allow them to pursue careers or graduate research in fields such as cyber and network security, information systems, computer science, human-computer interaction, and software development.
