Job Description:
Accountant
The Accountant oversees the recording of all financial transactions
to ensure accurate quantitative and timely information on Habitat's
financial position, liquidity and cash flow capability and project
fund reporting. Ensures company compliance with all tax
regulations, non-profit fund reporting requirements, and government
and other grant reporting responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Uphold the Mission, Values and Promises of Greensboro Habitat for
Humanity
Deposits/Accounts Receivable
Verify, prepare and record House Sales
Process and record monthly mortgage activity
Assist Accounts Payable with preparation and filing of NC Sales Tax
reimbursement
Cash Management
Assist in timely Cash Management between accounts (transfers,
releases, etc.)
Fixed Assets
Maintain fixed asset list and prepare and record accumulated
depreciation
Monthly Close
Compute and record interdepartmental cost allocations
Compute and record monthly CIP roll forwards
Manage and prepare all accounting transactions to ensure GAAP, FASB
and Non-Profit compliance and substantiates with supporting
documentation
Prepare and post journal entries as assigned by Director of
Finance
Perform month-end and year-end closing activities
Reporting
Generate monthly financial reports for management through Excel
based reporting system, including Departmental Budget to Cost
reports and Cash Flow forecasts
Prepare job costs reports as requested
Set up and maintain Grant tracking and reporting of revenues and
expenses
Serve as a resource to Habitat Greensboro staff on accounting
issues and procedures
Audit and Tax
Assist in preparation and review of annual tax returns
Assist in annual Budget preparation
Other
Perform special projects at discretion of the Director of
Finance
Maintain confidentiality of financial data and ensure financial
security by following internal controls
Support and adhere to Accounting Controls by preparing and
recommending policies and procedures
Update professional and technical knowledge by attending
educational workshops: reviewing professional publications;
participating in professional societies
Minimum Qualifications:
BS in Accounting or relevant degree, CPA or CMA a plus
Nonprofit accounting experience and/or training preferred
Strong knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures,
including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and
Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) rules for
nonprofits
Knowledge of fund accounting principles
Knowledge of accounting software; database software
Advanced Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word
Possess initiative, integrity, attention to detail and strong
interpersonal skills
Time management, decision making, and analytical problem-solving
skills required
Physical / Mental Demands:
This position requires some bending, lifting, carrying up to 20
pounds of office supplies, ability to use standard office equipment
and sitting for long periods of time while working at a
computer.
Working Conditions/Environment:
Work is in an office environment and does not require travel. A
hybrid work model may be available after training with partial work
at home and in an office environment. Hours are typically Monday -
Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM. Office located in Greensboro, North
Carolina.
